Peru is one of the areas in South American most affected by poverty and misery: the Country lacks a structure vision for local development, collective organization, management of natural resources and production activities, with severe consequences on children.

In the Andes and Amazonia, 50% of minors between 14 and 17 years of age works, mainly in the agricultural field. In the Loreto region, living conditions of young farmers are very poor; local population is affected by malnourishment that seeds its victims mostly among little children, preventing a generational turnover in the main local subsistence jobs.

New Life for Children is active in this region at the Hipolito Unanue and Payorote river communities, on the Amazon River. These projects positively revolutionized the way these two communities live, lowering child mortality by 100% and ensuring a modern education to all children until the end of the secondary cycle.

Project history

New Life for Children started working in Peru in 2008 with a project at Villa Maria del Triunfo, in the Lima region, aimed at reducing child work and improving the schooling level of the Paraiso Alto community children. The project ended in 2010.

In the same year, a literacy, nutritional support, healthcare and teacher training project was launched in the Amazon forest, in the Hipolito Unanue community.

In 2015, New Life for Children adopted another community along the banks of the Amazon: the native Payorote community. Here too, New Life for Children?s intervention includes educational, healthcare, nutritional and training goals.
