The humanitarian crisis this Country is going through - one of the most severe and complex in the work - risks becoming irreversible, and power groups are the only ones benefiting from this: the majority of the population lives in city dumps and slums. Kinshasa, the capital and the largest city in Sub-Saharan Africa, is among the 50 most dangerous cities worldwide.

Child mortality rates are high, malnourishment is widespread, vaccination coverage is poor and access to drinkable water is difficult. In order to mainly support the children and kids belonging to the poorer and illiterate families in Kinshasa, New Life for Children activated two projects in the city: one at the Groupe Scolaire Tshiseleka and one at the Complexe Scolaire Maman Gina Kumbi Kumbi (now concluded).

Through educational, healthcare and nutritional interventions, New Life for Children ensures that recipient children can regularly attend school and promote the development of their territory. Teachers - who receive teaching and educational training - guide them in their growth process.

Project history

In 2008, started the child literacy project at the Groupe Scolaire Tshiseleka, a school in M'Budi, which is still active today.

In 2013, we launched a second project at the Complexe Scolaire Maman Gina Kumbi Kumbi, a school in M'Pila slums, which is now concluded.

Goals

Improving the educational offer of M'Budi pre-schools, primary and secondary schools.

Ensuring primary healthcare to all the children of the recipient school, by providing easy access to prevention and treatment programs for frequent diseases.

Tackling malnourishment in children between 3 and 6 years of age that attend M'Budi preschool.

Training teachers and school staff on the latest teaching techniques, adapted to the specific social-economical context.

Extending and improving school buildings with structural interventions.
