our world

Brazil has about 206.1 million inhabitants: 7.4% of them lives below the national poverty line and 6% in the favelas. There are over 11 million people surviving in places where the mortality rate is very high, health and hygienic conditions are very poor and the crime rate is major.

In Brazil the number of violent acts, carried out in particular by and towards minors, is higher than the levels described in countries that are in a situation of war.

Here, New Life for Children works in the largest Macaé favela, just outside Rio de Janeiro, in a severely degraded social and cultural context, where many street children find that crime is the only way out of this poverty.

Project history

In 2013, New Life for Children started a partnership with the Casa do Menor ONG, by training over 60 staff members (psychologists, operators, social workers, educators). The project ended at the end of 2015.

In 2018, New Life for Children started a training program in Rio das Ostras, involving lawyers, social workers and teachers active on the front lines with children and teenagers at high risk of social exclusion.

In 2019, New Life for Children started a partnership with the local POSCRIS ONG, which is active in the Macaé favela to give children a safe place to stay.
